Bob McGuire
Bob started working with clay at Verdugo Hills High School in Mrs. Crosley’s art classes. He has a specific interest in large-scale, decorative vessels and the pyrotechnics of the firing process. He has built and refurbished numerous kilns, including a wood-fired kiln in Concow, California. He is a long-time teacher in the adult program of ceramics at Santa Barbara Adult Education (the School of Extended Learning).
Barbara Loebman
Barbara started working with clay at Adult Education in Santa Barbara after having been introduced to wheel-throwing at UCSB by Dianna Mori and Adelaide Watanabe. She has an interest in utilitarian stoneware and in porcelain. She is also a long-term teacher of ceramics at Adult Education, now retired.
Throughout their working lives, Bob and Barbara have maintained their interest in clay by taking classes and workshops and participating in the activities of like-minded people such as those of the Ventura County Potters’ Guild. They established two independently functioning workshops and are now collaborating on a line of work presented at the Virginia Road Showroom. Their work reflects the influence of the early high-fire pottery of China, Korea, and Japan, and contemporary aesthetics. Their work is represented in collections in the United States, Europe and Asia.
